Governor's Fishing opener comes to Nelson Lake!

Wisconsin Indianhead Country and the Hayward Lakes Visitor and Convention Bureau will co-sponsor the 39th annual Governor's Fishing Opener on Nelson Lake and the Chippewa Flowage from Friday, April 30, through Sunday, May 2.
The Governor will join electronic and print media from across the upper Midwest, state and local government officials and local business sponsors . They will be guided by area fishing guides.
Registration will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on Friday, April 30 at the National Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame. There will be a hospitality hour from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the LCO Casino and Convention renter, followed by a banquet and program. On Saturday, May 1, there will be a breakfast from 6-8 a.m. at Karibalis Restaurant, followed by fishing on Nelson Lake and the Chippewa Flowage.
Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.. at The Landing on Nelson Lake. A hospitality hour, banquet and auction begins at 5:30 p.m. at the LCO Casino Convention Center. The auction will raise funds for tourism promotion in northwest Wisconsin.
On Sunday, May 2, the Hayward Veterans Community Center will serve breakfast from 7-9 a.m. The Governor's Fishing Opener awards banquet begins at noon Sunday at Grand Pines West on Little Round Lake. Awards will be presented for the largest fish caught during the event.
This is the first time a Governor's Fishing Opener has been held on the Hayward Lakes since 1975.
