Experience the excitement of cross country skiing or snowshoeing on Nelson Lake by the light of
hundreds of glowing luminaries. Follow the shore of Big Island in the 8 kilometer (5-mile)
race/tour or NEW 4 kilometer (21/2-mile) tour. Enjoy the fun of food, drink and
entertainment in the big heated tent. Celebrate the wonder of a winter night.

The course will be groomed for skating and classic skiing. Race or tour the 8 K
course that circles the island or tour an out-and-back 4 K route.We’ll have stations
with volunteers every kilometer as well as the food station halfway around Big Island.
In the 8 K race we'll have awards for top men and women skiers and snowshoers, and skiers in 18
age classes. In the 8 K race or 4 K tour children 12 & under will get award medallions and adults
will receive a commemorative pin. All entrants have a chance to win a new pair of Atomic skis
donated and fitted by Outdoor Ventures in Hayward as well as many other prizes.

Registration Fees
Early registration and bib pickup will be held
from 12:00 noon-5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2
at the Hayward Carnegie Library, Main St. and
Hwy 63, Hayward, WI.
Race-day check-in and race-day signup will be
held from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Saturday,
March 3 at the Hayward Carnegie Library and
from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the Gerlach Boat
Landing site on Nelson Lake. At registration
you will receive your materials and a plastic
bag for clothes storage.
Pre-registered entries must be postmarked by
February 23. Fees received by that date are
$10 for children and students; $15 for adults.
Registrations after January 26 are $12 for
children and students; $20 for adults.
Registrations after February 23 are $12 for
children and students; $20 for adults.
Start & Finish
The start/finish is on Nelson Lake at the Gerlach
Road Boat Landing. Park in the lot or other
designated areas. Please carpool if possible.

ski race start time is 5:30 p.m.; all snowshoers
and 4 K skiers start at 5:40 p.m. Use
your plastic registration bag to store items for
after the event. Food, beer and soda will be
available in the big heated tent where the
drawings and awards will be held.
Awards
A 7:30 p.m. award ceremony will recognize
the overall male and female winners of the 8
K race in skiing and snowshoeing. Awards in
the race will also go to the top three male
and female skiers in 13-14; 15-16; 17-19; 20-
29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70 and over
age categories. The top three men and
women 8 K snowshoers will get awards.
Results will be posted in the tent as soon as
possible after the race. They will also be
posted at www.nelsonlake.net. Pins will be
given to adults at registration and children
will get medallions crossing the finish line.
Costumes will be judged at the start and
winners announced at awards time.
Special Notes
Lap the Lake for the Library is a family event,
but please be aware there are possible
dangers involved due to unpredictable
weather and other conditions. Children
under the age of 8 should be closely
accompanied by an adult for the duration of
the events, and we don’t advise having
children under 5 participate. Lap the Lake for
the Library is for skiers and snowshoers only.
No dogs or other animals will be allowed on
the course during the event. No vehicles with
wheels (bicycles, wagons, etc.) will be
allowed on the course. Walking without
snowshoes may or may not be allowed in the
4 K tour depending on snow conditions.
